As an adolescence we usually dream about the direction we would like our life to go, within our career paths. What was your dream during this time?

  • “I feel like my dream then was kinda still the same as it is now. I want to stay in the arts, however, I did not want the arts or dancing to always be my career. I wanted it to be a hobby I do for fun, as an adolescence I always wanted to do after school programs and some form of teaching outside of the classroom. Also, I knew I wanted to do something with mathematics.”

Why did you decide to go to college?

  • “Honestly, I decided to go to college because my mother always said that I would attend. While in high school applying to college became a way out. I was like okay, “I want to be free, I want to live my own life. So, I am going to go to college”. Otherwise, I would have stayed home at home and that was not an option for me.”

Have your pre college thoughts differed from your post college thoughts? If so, why?

  • “Oh, yea definitely. My thoughts post-grad has been to use education to get what you want in life and that does not only mean a career. You can network and use your career to do what you want, while not allowing you career to be your end all be all . You should use college as a tool. If you want to go into entrepreneurship you can get your degree but use it as a stepping stone.”

How would you define college?

  • “I think college is a place for people to experiment. If that means trying to decide what career path you want to take and taking bunch of classes in different types of areas, then do that. If you do not like certain qualities about yourself and you would like to work on yourself, then do that. College is for people to experiment with themselves and to physically and mentally challenge themselves to test their limits. It is a bonus to get a degree. College is really about testing yourself, challenging yourself, and doing the most to be the best in anything you can be and strive for that.”
