How has your upbringing shaped where you are today?

  • “I think that you know… it has allowed me to survive, I guess. Allowed me to make changes when needed, resources, and move forward. I think that’s the biggest thing it gave me. I use the word ‘survival’ because if you have none of the resources, you pretty much are surviving right? Especially if you are trying to go to school, doing so many stuff at the same time. You have to figure out a way to live on a daily basis. I add survival in there cause it just felt like part of me is surviving.”

What is your definition of the grey area? Would you say you are in it currently?

  • “I think the grey area is not time-based. I think the grey area is a space that exists outside of time. So it means it can occur at any perceived time and I think from there if a human being interprets that space, has no time as a mindset. As far as the grey area is concerned it is a mindset that exists outside of time. It can last indefinitely or in minutes, it lies in your ability to recognize you are in the grey area and to leave it. That grey area is an area of indecisiveness and indecision sometimes for me. “
  • “I am not in it right now. I think that I just got out of it. At the moment I made a series of choice that put me in a place that I need to be in. so I think I just came out of it.”

Was college worth the debt?

  • “I don’t believe any debt is good. But if I had to have debt, I want this one. To be honest with you.”

How would you define college?

  • “You need college because as a human…as a person of society, college does a good job socializing people, especially black people. In order for us to understand this society which wasn’t made for us, we need college to understand how the social networks work. All of us have available opportunities to utilize education, regardless of what we are doing in life.”
