Life motto: “Be true to yourself. I like to be honest and straightforward. I don’t like to beat around the bush and be secretive.”
As an adolescence, we usually dream about the direction we would like our life to go, within our career paths, what was your dream during this time?
- “I did not have one during this time. I think it was the influence of Dayton, to be honest with you, I saw things and the people around, in that school they didn’t know anything, they didn’t want to do anything…that kinda influenced me I think. I was really depressed during those years. It is just the mentality of Dayton itself, especially at that age, the people outside of Upward Bound. Upward Bound was good. That helped me a lot more than anything at that school ever did. People in that school wasn’t sure of anything they wanted to do, looking back now, none of them in that whole grade did anything outside of Dayton. Not many of them got out, I think the grand total, I can count on my finger the number of people that got out of Dayton.”
What is your definition of the grey area?
- “Trying to match things you like to do and things you will do. I think that’s kinda what it is. You are trying to match up things you are good at doing and things you like doing. Now like you said, those things don’t always match up, sometimes it sucks, even though you like it, you kinda suck at it. It’s about finding the inter-medium where you get a little bit of both.”
Why did you choose to go to college?
- “My mom told me I ain’t have no choice. I didn’t know what else to do, I know I didn’t want to just stay at home and go to work. Another reason for going would have to pertain to a big fear of mine and that’s living from paycheck to paycheck. I have seen it, don’t like it and I absolutely fear it. That was the big influence upon my mom just telling me.”
How do you view college now?
- “It cost to got damn much. You see these loans, Jesus Christ. These loans are literally just, okay well will like to take half. I’m like isn’t this the reason I went to college. I’m basically getting paid on the same level as if I didn’t go to college.maybe that just my mindset of focusing on the money, I’ve always not liked being in debt. I don’t like money problems. Going back to living to paycheck to paycheck. I’m like no, leave me alone. ”
How would you define college?
- “A mixture of culture, fun…it’s always gonna be fun unless you make it not fun. At the same time a trap because they make you do things you don’t wanna do, a lot of classes seem unnecessary in the long wind of things and the money. So it’s a bit of a trap in my opinion. Outside of that, the experience is priceless. A miniature world of its own with everything.”
